Due to Poverty and Aids, Kenya creates an orphan every five minutes. The government of Kenya is unable to cope with the high number of orphaned children and family members. Millions of children who have been orphaned by AIDS or whose family members suffer from the disease for years now have been struggling to survive and make ends meet of course children are often the victim s . The children are forced to become breadwinners, they are pulled out of school and often forced to take on potentially dangerous labor that is inappropriate for children. "The rights of children have been the missing piece of the AIDS crisis," said Joanne Csete, researcher in the Children's Rights Division of Human Rights Watch and the author of the report. "If their parents had died in any other way, these children would have been at the top of the agenda. But because the parents died of AIDS, with all of the stigma that implies, they're at the bottom. Many children are also unable to inherit property to which they are entitled because they are unable to navigate legal processes that are cumbersome and ill-suited to claimants who are minors. Some had to withdraw from school so they could earn money for the family or care for a sick relative, and in some cases to find livelihoods on the street or in domestic labor. Several girls described prostitution as their only way to make a living. Almost all of the orphaned children had faced obstacles to inheriting the house or land to which they were entitled. And many of them did not have good enough information on HIV/AIDS to understand why their parents had suffered and died, and to combat the stigma they faced.
If families are not there to help these children, then any one with a big heart can take the responsibility to provide care, security and protection. The social services also find children dumped onto the streets or simply left on the doorsteps of orphanages. As the numbers are increasing the strain on children's homes is immense with limited government funds they lack income, resources and staff.

There is the equatorial summit of Mt Kenya, the vast herds of game grazing on the masai mara, plains, the balloon safari and the sun-kissed beaches of Mombasa. With so much natural wealth, it's no wonder that Kenya has something for everyone.
Tip... if you are thinking of working as a volunteer or spending some of your holiday in Kenya then have a look through our projects below. It's a challenging but unbelievably rewarding project, which also gives volunteer the chance to explore Kenya Africa's most beautiful but deprived country.

.
Help out overworked teachers and spend time introducing children to games and sports. Based in an idyllic but desperately poor country, you'll make a real difference to young people's lives.
Help relieve the pressure on teachers who have more than 50 children to look after! Any assistance with core and creative subjects, and sport, will be much appreciated by everyone in the community .
Do you enjoy and have fun working with children? Would you also like to help maintain a better living situation for many of these children who live below poverty? Then this is the perfect opportunity for you! In this project you can help out around the disadvantage children in Kenya, tanzania or uganda. To those in the west, an orphanage can seem a sad place, but for some Kenyan children, an orphanage provides a refuge from the harsh conditions of the streets. It is a place where volunteers can watch the children smile, learn, and grow.
Skills/Qualifications Requirements
Volunteers do not require any special skills or qualifications because the project staff will provide all the necessary orientation and training to effectively carry out the activities. However, you should be passionate about caring for others and very understanding to the often adverse situations of these children
Room/Food/Supervision
Most of our volunteers live in a homestay with local host families and they are provided a private room and two meals a day. The family and you share use of the bathroom and kitchen facilities and you might also have another volunteer living with you. A lot of the people consider their home stay a vital component of their Kenya experience.
We welcome people from all walks of life to participate in these placements. The most important factor is to have a caring nature, be enthusiastic and not mind helping with washing and other labor intensive tasks. Providing support is often hard work but very rewarding as many of these orphans have no known family and get such little attention. To apply choose from the selection above.
